Diane joined the Washington State Labor Council in 1988 and has served in a number of positions, including Assistant to the President for Affiliation. In 1993, Diane was appointed Political Director and has since developed an aggressive political program with the goal of "connecting" with rank-and-file union members. She developed the WSLC's Labor Neighbor, which has become a national model for member-to-member political action. Her main areas of responsibility include candidate recruitment, assessment and endorsement input; direct mail and telephone identification in support of WSLC-endorsed candidates; assisting affiliated organizations with the development of their own membership action programs; conducting voter registration and shop steward training programs. In addition, Diane works with the WSLC's lobbying team on election-related issues, and developing grassroots involvement in the legislative arena. One of Diane's most innovative programs has been the WSLC's Labor Candidate School, a 4-day residential campaign school that prepares labor activists to run for elected office at all levels of government. Launched in 1995, the program (entitled "Planting Seeds for the Future") has trained more than 300 members in strategies for running winning campaigns. Return to Officers / Staff page.
