Rebecca Johnson
Government Affairs Director
Rebecca
is an attorney and joined the Washington State Labor Council in 2008. As
Government Affairs Director, she works with our affiliated organizations
and community coalitions to improve the lives of Washington's working families by ensuring that our voices are heard in Olympia.
Rebecca leads the WSLC's core lobbying team, which includes Legislative
and Policy Director Teresa Mosqueda and Field Mobilization Director
Lori Province.
Rebecca
focuses on public policy impacting working people. These legislative areas
include increasing our voice at work through greater organizing and
collective bargaining rights, improving our health care system,
strengthening workers' compensation and unemployment insurance, and
providing for Washington's future through workforce training and apprenticeship programs.
Rebecca serves on a number of boards and committees, including: the
Unemployment Insurance Advisory Committee, the Labor and Industries
Curriculum Review Committee, the WISHA Advisory Committee, the Young
Worker Advisory Committee and the Unemployment Law Project Board.
Rebecca
completed the AFL-CIO Organizing Institute internship program in 2000 and
became a successful organizer with the Service Employees International
Union. Rebecca moved to Washington in 2002 and joined SEIU 1199NW, where
she represented and assisted members in contract negotiation and
employment grievances and trained leadership teams to advocate for
improved patient care standards through political action and community
outreach.
Rebecca
earned her B.A. in Sociology and Women’s Studies from the University of
Colorado and her law degree is from the University of Washington.
