Rebecca Johnson
Government Affairs Director

Rebecca is an attorney and joined the Washington State Labor Council in 2008. As Government Affairs Director, she works with our affiliated organizations and community coalitions to improve the lives of Washington's working families by ensuring that our voices are heard in Olympia. Rebecca leads the WSLC's core lobbying team, which includes Legislative and Policy Director Teresa Mosqueda and Field Mobilization Director Lori Province.

Rebecca focuses on public policy impacting working people. These legislative areas include increasing our voice at work through greater organizing and collective bargaining rights, improving our health care system, strengthening workers' compensation and unemployment insurance, and providing for Washington's future through workforce training and apprenticeship programs.  Rebecca serves on a number of boards and committees, including: the Unemployment Insurance Advisory Committee, the Labor and Industries Curriculum Review Committee, the WISHA Advisory Committee, the Young Worker Advisory Committee and the Unemployment Law Project Board.

Rebecca completed the AFL-CIO Organizing Institute internship program in 2000 and became a successful organizer with the Service Employees International Union. Rebecca moved to Washington in 2002 and joined SEIU 1199NW, where she represented and assisted members in contract negotiation and employment grievances and trained leadership teams to advocate for improved patient care standards through political action and community outreach.

Rebecca earned her B.A. in Sociology and Women’s Studies from the University of Colorado and her law degree is from the University of Washington.
