2003 House Vote Descriptions

  1. HB 1214 (Rep. Cody, D-West Seattle) -- Original bill creating a prescription drug purchasing pool to negotiate lower prices. Senate Republican leaders refused to allow a vote on this bill so a compromise bill that restricted who could participate in the program was later passed into law. Right vote was YES. Passed 64-33, Feb. 7.
  2. HB 1869 (Rep. McIntire, D-Seattle) -- An amendment by Rep. Skip Priest, R-Federal Way, gutting the bill requiring regular performance audits of tax breaks. Right vote was NO. Passed 51-47, Mar. 18.
  3. HB 1065 (Rep. Conway, D-Tacoma)-- Creating apprenticeship opportunities at public works projects. Right vote was YES. Passed 52-45, Mar. 19.
  4. SB 5404 -- 2003-05 Operating Budget (as amended in the regular session by the House) with a one-time raise for public employees, honoring the home-care contract and mitigating human services cuts. Right vote was YES. Passed 52-46, Apr. 26.
  5. HB 2267 (Rep. Gombosky, D-Spokane) -- Raising revenue dedicated to schools and the Basic Health Plan by repealing some tax exemptions, raising the cigarette tax and ending sales tax exemptions on candy and gum. Right vote was YES. Passed 50-48, Apr. 26.
  6. HB 2231 (Rep. Murray, D-Seattle) -- Transportation funding package that included a 5-cent gas tax increase. Right vote was YES. Passed 60-38, Apr. 26.
  7. SB 5404 -- 2003-05 Operating Budget (special session) with no public employee raises, failure to honor home-care contract and unacceptable human services cuts. Right vote was NO. Passed 67-30-1, Jun 5.
  8. SB 6059 (Sen. Oke, R-Port Orchard) -- Suspending I-732 cost-of-living raises for teachers and school workers. Right vote was NO. Passed 59-33-6, Jun. 9.
  9. SB 5271 -- Restricting workers’ compensation hearing loss claims by requiring that they be filed within two years of last injurious exposure. Right vote was NO. Passed 69-21-8, Jun. 11.
  10. SB 6097 -- Unemployment Insurance "reform" that dramatically cut benefits. Right vote was NO. Passed 57-33-8, Jun. 11.
