2008 House Vote Descriptions

  1. SHB 2963 (final passage) -- Extends Collective Bargaining Rights to research assistants and teaching assistants at Washington State University. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 62-32, Feb. 15.)

  2. SSB 6751 (final passage) -- Allowing individuals who left work to enter certain apprenticeship programs to receive unemployment insurance benefits. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 62-32, March 4)

  3. E2SHB 3139 (final passage) -- Ensuring that workers who have applied for and have been granted unemployment benefits because of injury or illness keep receiving those benefits during the appeal process initiated by an employer. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 62-32, Feb. 18).

  4. SSB 5261 (final passage) -- Granting the insurance commissioner the authority to review individual health benefit plan rates to ensure rate hikes are justified and reasonable. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 68-26, Feb. 29)

  5. SSB 6333 (final passage) -- Establishing a citizens’ work group on health care to review proposed statewide plans and perform a cost analysis of those plans with the idea of providing comprehensive, affordable health care for all Washingtonians. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 63-31, March 7)

  6. SSB 5831 (final passage) -- Providing for the certification of mechanics performing heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and gas piping work. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 58-35, March 7)

  7. SSB 6809 (final passage) -- Providing a 5% tax credit for working families earning low wages. The amount of return is measured by the federal earned income tax credit. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 57-37, March 6)

  8. 2SHB 2815 (final passage) -- Requires the state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and establishes a green jobs initiative to increase the number of green economy jobs to 25,000 by 2020. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 64-31, Feb. 19)

  9. HB 2893 (final passage) -- For the first time in 34 years this bill modifies the composition of the forest practices board to include a member from labor. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 90-04, Feb. 15)

  10. 2SHB 3104 (final passage) --  Expands the rights and responsibilities for registered domestic partnerships including the right to child support, community property rights, guardianship and public assistance. "Right" vote: YES. (Passed 62-42, Feb. 15)
