WSLC delegates make election endorsements

Hundreds of delegates representing the Washington State Labor Council's affiliated unions from across the state gathered in Seattle on Saturday to consider election endorsements at the WSLC's COPE (Committee on Political Education) Convention.

Delegates heard from congressional, statewide and judicial candidates, including U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, U.S. Reps. Adam Smith, Rick Larsen and Jim McDermott, 3rd congressional district candidates Craig Pridemore and Denny Heck, and several others.

In the afternoon, delegates debated and voted on which candidates and ballot measures to endorse in this year's elections. A two-thirds majority was required for endorsement. Delegates will reconvene at the WSLC's Constitutional Convention in August to consider additional endorsements.

The following candidates and ballot measures were endorsed Saturday by the Washington State Labor Council (download a printable PDF version): 

       Congressional Candidates:

  • U.S. Senate -- Patty Murray

  • CD-01 -- Jay Inslee

  • CD-02 -- Rick Larsen

  • CD-03 -- Craig Pridemore  (UPDATE: Pridemore has since withdrawn from the race. WSLC delegates will have the opportunity to reconsider this race at the WSLC's Constitutional Convention on Aug. 9-12 in Tacoma.) 

  • CD-04 -- Jay Clough

  • CD-06 -- Norm Dicks

  • CD-07 -- Jim McDermott

  • CD-08 -- Suzan DelBene

  • CD-09 -- Adam Smith

Statewide Candidates:  

  • Supreme Court -- Charlie Wiggins

  • Supreme Court -- Barbara Madsen

  • State Court of Appeals Div. 2, Pos. 2 -- Michael Spearman

  • OPPOSE Initiative 1053 -- Tim Eyman's 2/3 supermajority requirement on budget issues

  • OPPOSE Initiative 1082 -- Workers' comp privatization

  • SUPPORT Initiative 1098 -- High-earners' income tax

  • SUPPORT Ref. 52 -- Jobs Act of 2010 (Schools & Jobs)

  • OPPOSE ANY initiative to privatize state liquor stores

  • OPPOSE ANY initiative to repeal any part of the 2010 revenue package
